      Travel guide: Guilin

Easier than you thinkJapanese and many European passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days (through 2026). One flat-fare bus links the airport and town, and the venue sits by Seven Star Park, so sightseeing between matches is easy.

      Getting there

Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is 27 km out. The airport bus costs CNY 20 and takes 40–60 min, stopping near Seven Star Park (board at gate 6, arrivals). Ride-hailing: about 36 min, CNY 50–70 plus a CNY 9 toll. Ignore touts inside the hall.

Most payments are by QR code with Alipay or WeChat Pay; both accept foreign Visa/Mastercard after ID verification (set up both). Carry a little cash. Google, Gmail, WhatsApp and Instagram don't work on local Wi-Fi, so use roaming or a travel eSIM. Book rides with DiDi. Check current visa rules for your passport.

      Staying safe

A relaxed, tourist-friendly city, but stay alert. Refuse unlicensed taxi touts at the airport and stations; use ride-hailing or official ranks. Drink bottled, not tap, water. Summers are hot and wet, so carry water and a hat.

      With family & friends

Seven Star Park, with karst hills and caves, is right next to the venue. Elephant Trunk Hill and Zhengyang Pedestrian Street are a short taxi ride. A Li River cruise or Yangshuo's West Street (about 1.5 h by bus) make great day trips.

      Booking tips

      • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
      • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
      • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
      • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
