Travel guide: Shanghai-Baoshan
Easier than you thinkJapanese and many European passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days (through 2026). Shanghai has many direct flights, an excellent metro and more English signage than most Chinese cities, so it's a gentle first trip to China.
Getting there
From Hongqiao Airport, the metro reaches downtown in about 30 min (about CNY 5); from Pudong, Metro Line 2 takes about 60 min to People's Square (about CNY 7). Metro Line 18 has a West Changjiang Road station on the venue's road. Finish by taxi or DiDi (Hongqiao to Baoshan by car: about 50 min, around CNY 150).

From the official hotel
Atour Light (500 Changjiang Rd, Baoshan): about 2.7 km from the venue. Taxi/DiDi about 10 min, about CNY 15. Nearest metro is Line 3 Songfa Rd (about 15-min walk).

- Shanghai Railway Station
- About 13 km. Taxi about 30 min, about CNY 40–45.
Tip: DiDi works well in Shanghai; show the driver P-MAX网球(宝山区长江西路855号) and allow extra time for weekday morning traffic.

Things to see nearby
- Shanghai Museum of GlassCreative glass museum in a converted glass factory. About 5 min walk; open 10:00-17:00, closed Mondays.
- Paotaiwan Wetland Forest ParkWetland and forest park on the Yangtze estuary. About 15 min by taxi; breezy and lovely for an evening walk.
- Gucun ParkOne of Shanghai's biggest parks, famous for cherry blossoms in Mar-Apr. About 20 min by taxi; good for picnics.

Paying & staying connected
Most payments are by QR code with Alipay or WeChat Pay; both accept foreign Visa/Mastercard after ID verification (set up both). The metro takes QR codes too. Google, Gmail, WhatsApp and Instagram don't work on local Wi-Fi, so use roaming or a travel eSIM. Book rides with DiDi. Check current visa rules.
Staying safe
Safe by big-city standards, but watch for the "tea house" scam and fake guides in busy tourist areas. Use official taxi ranks or ride-hailing. Traffic is heavy and e-scooters use pavements, so look both ways carefully.
With family & friends
In Baoshan: Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Park, an observation tower over the Yangtze–Huangpu confluence, and Gucun Park (cherry blossoms in spring). The Bund and Yu Garden downtown are an easy metro day trip.
Prices and details are rough guides (researched in 2026). Please check the latest before you travel.
