Travel guide: Bhubaneswar

Easier than you thinkBiju Patnaik Airport is only about 6 km from the city centre, with many domestic flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other hubs. Kalinga Stadium sits right in the heart of the city.

Getting there

From Biju Patnaik Airport (BBI) to Kalinga Stadium in Nayapalli is roughly 15–25 minutes by car. Uber/Ola or a prepaid taxi costs about ₹200–400 (≈ US$2.5–5).

From the official hotel

THE DIVAN (Nayapalli) is about 1.5 km from the venue per the organiser: about 5–10 min by auto-rickshaw or Uber/Ola (about INR 50–100), or roughly a 20-min walk.

Paying & staying connected

Cards work at hotels, malls and chains; carry rupee cash for stalls and auto-rickshaws. Most foreigners can't use UPI QR pay, but NPCI's UPI One World wallet is an option. Get India's e-Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa at least 4 days before travel. Set up an eSIM before you fly; use Uber or Ola.

Staying safe

A relatively calm city, but normal care applies. Drink only bottled water and pick busy street stalls that cook to order. Traffic is heavy with many two-wheelers, so cross roads carefully. Plan for daytime heat and strong sun.

With family & friends

Known as the 'Temple City': Lingaraj Temple (non-Hindus view it from a platform outside) and Mukteswar Temple are about 15–20 minutes by car. Nandankanan Zoological Park (about 20 km) and the Ekamra Haat crafts market are also good outings.

Prices and details are rough guides (researched in 2026). Please check the latest before you travel.

Booking tips

  • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
  • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
  • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
  • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
