    Travel guide: Osaka

Easier than you thinkThe venue is in Kanzakigawa, just three stops (about 8 minutes) from Osaka-umeda on the Hankyu Kobe Line local train. Itami Airport is about an hour away, and stations and trains have plenty of English signs, so it's an easy city for first-timers.

    Getting there

The courts are about an 8-minute walk from Kanzakigawa Station on the Hankyu Kobe Line (just west of the big round Osaka Gas tanks). Only local trains stop at Kanzakigawa, so if you board an express, switch to a local at Juso. From Itami: Osaka Monorail to Hotarugaike, Hankyu Takarazuka Line to Juso, then the Hankyu Kobe Line local to Kanzakigawa. About 50 minutes including the walk, about ¥550–650 (~$4). A taxi takes about 20–30 minutes, about ¥4,000–5,500 (~$27–37). From Kansai Airport: limousine bus to Osaka Station area (stops include Hankyu Sanbangai) in about 60 minutes for ¥1,800 (~$12), then Hankyu to Kanzakigawa in about 8 minutes for about ¥200. About 1.5–1.75 hours in total. You can also take the JR Haruka express to Shin-Osaka (about 50 minutes) and a taxi from there (about 15 minutes).

    Staying somewhere else

    Umeda / Osaka Station
Hankyu Kobe Line local from Osaka-umeda to Kanzakigawa (3 stops, about 8 min), then about 8 min walk. About 25–30 min door to door, about ¥200.
    Juso
Hankyu Kobe Line local from Juso, 1 stop (about 3 min), then about 8 min walk. About 15–20 min door to door, about ¥170.
    Shin-Osaka
JR to Osaka Station (about 4 min), walk to Hankyu Osaka-umeda, then Kobe Line local to Kanzakigawa. Or taxi, about 15 min and ¥1,500–2,000. About 40 min door to door, about ¥370.

Tip: There is no official tournament hotel. Only local trains stop at Kanzakigawa, so take a 'Local' (普通) train from Umeda or Juso. Juso is the closest and usually cheaper; Umeda is best for food, shopping and sightseeing.

    Things to see nearby

    • Umeda Sky BuildingAbout 25 min from the venue by train and walk. The Floating Garden observatory (173 m) is best at sunset and after dark.
    • Osaka CastleAbout 40 min from the venue (change at Umeda to subway or JR). The castle plum grove blooms in late Feb–March.
    • DotonboriAbout 35 min from the venue (Midosuji subway from Umeda to Namba). Neon signs and street food; liveliest at night.
    • Expo '70 Commemorative ParkAbout 50 min from the venue (via Juso and Hotarugaike, then Osaka Monorail). Home of the Tower of the Sun; quieter on weekdays.

    Food

Osaka is famous as Japan's food city. Around Umeda you'll find plenty of kushikatsu (fried skewers), okonomiyaki and takoyaki, including easy spots in station buildings and underground malls. Juso, one stop from the venue, is an old-school food neighborhood with izakaya and the original Negiyaki Yamamoto, where the green-onion pancake 'negiyaki' was born. Great for dinner after matches.

    Paying & staying connected

Credit cards work in most shops, but small restaurants and stalls may be cash only, so carry some yen. An IC card such as ICOCA (Suica also works) makes trains, buses and convenience stores easy. You can hail taxis on the street or book with the GO or Uber apps. Get a SIM at the airport counter, or set up an eSIM before you fly.

    Staying safe

Osaka is very safe, even at night. Just ignore touts in busy nightlife areas. February is cold: highs around 10°C (50°F) and lows near 3°C (37°F), and the riverside courts can be windy, so bring a warm layer and gloves for between matches (March is a bit milder, highs around 14°C). Tap water is safe to drink.

    With family & friends

With kids, try Expo '70 Commemorative Park (the Tower of the Sun, big lawns and playgrounds, plum festival in Feb–Mar), Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, one of the world's largest aquariums, or Tennoji Zoo. For rainy days, Kids Plaza Osaka near Umeda is a fun indoor option.
