      Travel guide: Silchar

Easier than you thinkA gateway to India's northeast, with domestic flights from Kolkata and Guwahati. The town is compact and relaxed, surrounded by green hills and rivers.

      Getting there

Silchar Airport (Kumbhirgram, IXS) has IndiGo and Alliance Air flights from Kolkata, Guwahati and nearby cities. It is about 29 km from the centre, roughly 45–60 minutes by car. A hotel pickup or airport taxi is easiest.

From your hotel to the venue

      From the official hotel

Sagarika Regency and Hotel Sudikshina (Nazirpatty) and Hotel Borail View Regency (Ambicapatty) are all about 500 m from the club per the organiser: a 5–10 min walk or a quick e-rickshaw ride.

      Staying somewhere else

      Nazirpatty
Same central area as the official hotels; about 5–10 min on foot or by e-rickshaw.
      Ambicapatty
District with hotels and places to eat; about 10 min by e-rickshaw/auto, around INR 50.
      Tarapur (station area)
Home to Silchar railway station; about 15–20 min by auto.

Tip: Silchar (Kumbhirgram) airport is about 22 km out of town, so pre-arrange a transfer; in town, autos and e-rickshaws are the norm, so agree the fare first.

      • ISKCON Temple SilcharLarge Krishna temple with vegetarian eateries nearby. About 15 min by car.
      • Khaspur RuinsRemains of the Dimasa Kachari capital, incl. gates with elephant motifs. About 20 km, roughly 40 min by car.
      • Kancha Kanti Kali MandirGoddess temple said to date from 1806, popular with local pilgrims. About 11 km, roughly 20-25 min by car.

      Food

Food is mainly Bengali-style: river fish curry with rice is the local classic. Janiganj Bazar is known for street food. There are few big chains, so hotel restaurants and busy local eateries are the safe bets.

      Paying & staying connected

Mostly cash (rupees); hotels and some shops take cards. Don't count on ride-hailing apps; arrange cars through your hotel. Enter India with an e-Visa (indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa, apply at least 4 days ahead) via an international airport such as Delhi or Kolkata. Set up an eSIM before you fly.

      Staying safe

A quiet regional town, but take normal care. Drink bottled water and favour freshly cooked food. The monsoon (roughly June–September) can bring heavy rain, so leave slack in your plans. Travel by car after dark.

      With family & friends

See Sadarghat Bridge over the Barak River, the Dimasa kingdom ruins at Khaspur (about 20 km), and photogenic Dolu Lake. Some nearby tea estates offer tours.

Prices and details are rough guides (researched in 2026). Please check the latest before you travel.

      Booking tips

      • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
      • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
      • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
      • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
