      Travel guide: Wuning

Easier than you thinkJapanese and many European passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days (through 2026). Wuning is a national tennis demonstration zone that hosts 20+ events a year, so it's used to welcoming players to its lakeside venue.

      Getting there

The nearest major airport is Nanchang Changbei International, about 2 hours' drive away (Jiujiang Lushan Airport is about 1.5 hours). By high-speed rail, get off at Yongxiu and drive about 1 hour. Public transport is limited, so use ride-hailing or arrange a transfer.

      From the official hotel

Wuning International Tennis Center Hotel is on site, about 30 m from the courts — just walk.

      Staying somewhere else

      Wuning county centre
About 5.5 km from the venue; taxi/DiDi about 10-15 min. Most hotels and restaurants; rooms reported around CNY 150-300.
      West Sea Bay (Xihaiwan)
Lakeside area of town known for its night views; about 6 km from the venue, about 15 min by car. Cluster of hotels.
      Nanchang city
Gateway airport and rail hub, but about a 2-hour drive to Wuning — only for the nights before or after.

Tip: Wuning has no rail station and is about 2 hours by car from Nanchang, so arrange a transfer or ride in advance; when using DiDi, show the driver 武宁国际网球中心.

      Paying & staying connected

Most payments are by QR code with Alipay or WeChat Pay; both accept foreign Visa/Mastercard after ID verification (set up both). Foreign cards rarely work in small towns, so carry some cash. Google, Gmail, WhatsApp and Instagram don't work on local Wi-Fi, so use roaming or a travel eSIM. Book rides with DiDi. Check current visa rules.

      Staying safe

A quiet, easy-going town, but very little English is spoken. Save your hotel and venue addresses in Chinese. Avoid mountain roads after dark. Drink bottled water. Rooms fill up on tournament weekends, so book early.

      With family & friends

The venue is lakeside. Lushan Xihai (Zhelin Lake), dotted with countless islets, offers lakeside walks, kayaking, hot springs and a glass bridge. Even in town, the mountain and lake scenery is relaxing.

Prices and details are rough guides (researched in 2026). Please check the latest before you travel.

      Booking tips

      • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
      • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
      • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
      • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
