      Paying & staying connected

Cards are widely accepted, though some small family-run places take cash only. Use a manaca card, or a Suica or other IC card, on trains and the subway. The GO app is handy for taxis. A SIM card or eSIM keeps you online.

      Staying safe

Nagoya is generally safe; just ignore street touts in nightlife areas. Summers are very hot and humid, so drink water and rest in the shade between matches. The 'Safety Tips' app gives earthquake alerts in English.

      With family & friends

Nagoya Castle is within walking distance of the venue. Sakae and the Osu shopping street are 10–20 minutes by subway. The SCMaglev and Railway Park and LEGOLAND Japan, both at Kinjo Pier, are popular with families.

      Booking tips

      • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
      • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
      • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
      • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
