Travel guide: Mumbai
Easier than you thinkMumbai Airport (BOM) has direct flights from Japan and across Asia. Colaba is the heart of South Mumbai, with the Gateway of India, hotels and restaurants close together.
Getting there
From Mumbai's CSMIA airport (BOM) to the Cooperage in Colaba is about 25 km: 1–2 hours by Uber/Ola depending on traffic, about ₹800–1,200 (≈ US$10–14). An AC prepaid airport taxi runs about ₹1,200–1,800.
From your hotel to the venue
From the official hotel
Hotel Diplomat (Colaba, near the Gateway of India) is about 2 km from the Cooperage courts: about 5–10 min by black-and-yellow taxi or Uber/Ola, about INR 50–100 (meter starts at INR 33).

Paying & staying connected
Cards are widely accepted, but keep some rupee cash for stalls and small shops. Most foreigners can't use UPI, though the UPI One World wallet is an option. Apply for India's e-Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa at least 4 days ahead. Uber and Ola are easy; set up an eSIM before you fly.
Staying safe
Usual big-city care applies. Watch for pickpockets in crowds such as Colaba Causeway, and politely ignore pushy touts. Drink bottled water and choose busy food stalls. The June–September monsoon can disrupt traffic. Uber/Ola is the easy way around.
With family & friends
The Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Palace hotel are close to the venue, and Colaba Causeway is fun for shopping. A sunset walk along Marine Drive is about 10–15 minutes away by car.
