      Travel guide: Indore

Easier than you thinkIndore Airport is just 8 km from the city, with domestic flights from Delhi and Mumbai. Indore has topped India's national cleanliness survey for eight years running, which makes it an easy first taste of India.

      Getting there

From Indore Airport (IDR) to Indore Tennis Club on Race Course Road is about 8 km: roughly 20–30 minutes by Uber/Ola for about ₹200–400 (≈ US$2.4–5).

From your hotel to the venue

      From the official hotel

Hotel Apna Avenue (New Palasia) is about 500 m away, a 5–10 min walk. Hotel Kalinga (South Tukoganj) is listed at about 2 km (maps show it closer): about 5–10 min by auto, about INR 50–100.

      Staying somewhere else

      South Tukoganj
Dense hotel cluster next to the venue; 5–10 min on foot or by auto, around INR 50.
      Palasia
Lively food district near Chappan Dukan; about 10 min by auto, about INR 50–100.
      Vijay Nagar
Newer area with malls and hotels; about 20–30 min by cab, about INR 150–250.

Tip: Uber, Ola and Rapido work in Indore; the club is opposite Holkar Cricket Stadium, so say "Indore Tennis Club, Race Course Road".

      • Lal Bagh PalaceLavish Holkar palace with European-style interiors and gardens. About 20 min by car.
      • Sarafa BazaarJewellery lane that turns into a famous night food street. About 15 min by car; comes alive after about 9 pm.
      • Chhappan Dukan (56 Dukan)Popular food street of snack and sweet shops. About 10 min by car; try poha and jalebi.

      Food

Indore is a street-food city: poha and jalebi for breakfast, Chappan Dukan (56 shops) by day, and Sarafa Bazaar night market (9pm–2am) for dahi bada and chaat. Popular stalls turn food over fast, so it's freshly made.

      Paying & staying connected

Hotels and malls take cards; street stalls want rupee cash, so carry small notes. Most foreigners can't use UPI, but the UPI One World wallet is an option. Apply for India's e-Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa at least 4 days ahead. Uber/Ola work; set up an eSIM before you fly.

      Staying safe

A clean, calm city, but normal care applies. Drink bottled water and go easy on raw salads and water-based snacks like pani puri. Sarafa gets crowded at night, so mind your valuables. Traffic is busy; cross carefully.

      With family & friends

Rajwada Palace, the seven-storey Holkar palace beside Sarafa Bazaar, Lalbagh Palace and Khajrana Ganesh Temple are about 15–20 minutes by car. An evening stroll through the night food market is fun for all ages.

      Booking tips

      • Book one night at a time, so you can cancel just the nights after you lose.
      • Some hotels (e.g. Toyoko Inn in Japan) offer rates you can cancel free until shortly before arrival when booked on their own site. Deadlines differ by hotel and rate — always check before booking.
      • The cancellation deadline can differ between a booking site and the hotel's own site.
      • On Airbnb, a home with a "Flexible" cancellation policy usually gives a full refund up to a day before.
