My weapon: the “bazooka” forehand.
Representing Japan again at last.

A three-time All Japan doubles champion who won team gold at the Universiade in her first year as a pro in 2019, Kanako Morisaki combines playing with running the community “Tennis no Musubi”. She talks about the World Championships.

Q1

Please introduce yourself

Tennis from age three, thanks to my parents.

Hello everyone, I'm Kanako Morisaki. I started tennis at three. Both my parents played, so I grew up with it and have played ever since.

My main results are winning the All Japan Championships doubles three times, and, in my first year as a pro in 2019, being selected for Japan at the Universiade, where I won team gold, doubles bronze and reached the singles quarter-finals.

Now, alongside playing, I run the community “Tennis no Musubi” and plan events. There are three of us running it, including me.

Q2

What should people watch for at the World Championships?

Enjoy the atmosphere only a team event has.

It's been a while since I last represented Japan. Fun, happiness, nerves — lots of feelings are mixed together, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I love team events, so I'm especially excited about that. There aren't many team competitions in tennis, so I hope you'll really enjoy the atmosphere.

In every category — men's and women's 30 and 35 — there are lots of legends who have played Grand Slams. Please come and watch them play.

As for me, my weapon is my forehand — people always call it a “bazooka”. I'd love you to see it.

Q3

What do you want to take on next?

Sharing how tennis can make life more fun.

I've learned so much from tennis. I want people to get better at tennis, but I also want to share how tennis can make life more enjoyable — that's why I run Tennis no Musubi.

I'll keep working to share that not just within tennis, but in the bigger picture of life.

Q4

Finally, a word for tennis fans

Enjoy all of it — the frustration included.

More than anything, I want people to truly enjoy tennis. There will be frustrating moments too, but I hope you'll enjoy all of it, everything that tennis is.
